Belturbet Trout Angling Association

The association was formed over 30 years ago. The club waters stretch from Kilconney Bridge to the Railway Bridge in Belturbet. Artificial fly fishing only for wild brown trout allowed. This scenic stretch of river is an ideal habitat for trout, with fast runs and slower sections. On one bank is the tree lined Turbet Island and the other is an amenity area with picnic tables. Over the years this stretch has produced many fine trout.

Permits and Competitions

Day permits are available from the Railway Bar, The Diamond Belturbet. There is an annual “Open fly fishing Competition” fished on the August Bank Holiday weekend during the festival of the Erne held in Belturbet in County Cavan.

Local angling information is available from Martin Rowan Phone (087)9583629.

Rainbow Trout

In 1996 the club expanded its activities by stocking the Holy Lake with Rainbow Trout. This was achieved with the blessing of the landowners around the lake and the assistance of the Northern Regional fisheries Board. The lake has proved an outstanding success. Because of an abundant natural food supply the fish thrive in the lake. The lake has 6 club boats available. Fly fishing from club boats only. Day tickets and boats are available from Ian Elliott at the house at entrance to lake. Phone Ian on (049)9522865.

Disabled Anglers

We also have a boat adapted for disabled anglers

The lake is situated 4 kilometers from Belturbet on the Belturbet/Balyconnell road at Tomkin road in Co. Cavan. There are signposts all the way.
